Back in March, Microsoft announced Family Safety App tool on iOS and Android and made available for Preview in May of this year. Today the Redmond has finally rolled it out for everyone.
It is basically for the parents who are worried about their kids’ online safety and for that it helps to take a watch on their online activities to create healthier habits.
There are mainly top 5 ways in this app by which a family can be benefited from:
1. Weekly activity report of kids
Every week both parents and kids will get an email of weekly time report for kids’ online activities and this will help parents to start the conversation with their kids about their activities and how to change this behavior of kids.
2. Screen time limiting
As in this pandemic time, kids spend more and more time on their screen for remote learning & schooling. And because of that, they are attracted to spend more time playing games and use apps. So, this app provides you the flexibility to limit the screen time of kids using Apps and Games. And you can divert kids on learning, which is actually needed.
3. Boundaries for Web and search filters
This feature is best among all. Because Kids sometimes come across unwanted search results which may be adult content or spams. So, this app helps out to filter these results/ content and sets browsing kids friendly by blocking unwanted websites list.
4. Receive purchase request emails before surprise spending by Kids
It is a headache for parents to convince kids for not purchasing any Games or apps without asking them. But now this app feature will remove your problem and will send you an email request to purchase anything online and will become more responsible.
5. Location sharing facility of family members
The Family Safety App feature will let you know your family member’s last known location at a glance and also adds favorite location like home to see that everyone is safe and sound in the family.
In future Microsoft is planning to introduce two premium features which will be part of Microsoft 365 Family subscription: (1) Drive Safety (to help to build better habits behind the wheel with insights on driving behavior) and (2) Location Alerts (to notify you when a family member arrives or departs a specific location)
